Dave Schneider's 1965 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
Like many of us, Dave Schneider’s love for vehicles started during his youth. Unlike other teenagers, Dave wasn’t interested in typical teenage things. He was drawn to the world of minitrucks. It all began when he saw a Mazda owned by older kids on his street. This sparked a curiosity that would define his automotive journey. Despite initial setbacks, Dave eventually acquired a Nissan minitruck, igniting a lifelong passion for cars and trucks.
Dave’s stepfather, a mechanic, wasn’t a fan of hot rods, but that didn’t dampen Dave’s enthusiasm. His turning point came when he spotted a golden 1966 C10 with a big back window on eBay. He missed out on that one, but fate intervened a year later when he found a weathered red 1965 model.
Initially starting as a search for a daily driver, this became a full-blown project. Dave’s meticulous attention to detail and love for experimentation took over. The truck’s original engine was the first to go, replaced by a fresh small block crate motor with a salvaged Hampton supercharger and a bold triple Stromberg 97 carburetor setup. To showcase this impressive powerplant, Dave proudly removed the hood.
Next came the challenge of stance. Dave used a combination of innovative solutions, including a Scott’s Hotrods front suspension and Slam Specialties airbags for the front, and a Porterbuilt back half with trailing arms and Firestone sleeve bags for the rear. An Air Lift system keeps everything balanced, ensuring both style and functionality.
The project wasn’t without setbacks. A major engine failure led to a more formidable choice: a 427ci Dart small block with a nitrous oxide injection for extra power. Custom stainless-steel headers and a dramatic 3.5-inch exhaust system further accentuated the truck’s bold personality.
Though originally wanting to keep just the weathered look, Dave couldn’t resist adding some personal touches. He collaborated with Daniel Smith at Smith Workx for custom paintwork on the firewall and roof, taking the aesthetics to a whole new level. Encouraged by Daniel and Jason Ballard, Dave proudly displayed his creation at the prestigious SEMA show, solidifying its status as a showstopper.
The transformation continued on the inside. A blend of retro charm and modern convenience gave the cabin new life. Speedway components like the steering column and bomber seats added personality, while a Mooneyes tachometer and a custom flying eyeball on the glovebox brought in a touch of hot rod flair.
Wheels and tires are crucial for any build, and Dave’s C10 was no exception. He chose a set of Colorado Custom Sugar City billet wheels with a copper center, perfectly complementing the hot rod theme. Paired with Nitto NT555 G2 tires, they not only looked stunning but also delivered superior performance.
The final version of Dave’s C10 is more than just a truck; it’s a work of art that embodies his passion and creativity. The truck’s unique look and powerful engine turn heads wherever it goes, and it has earned respect among other custom builds. From a daily driver to a showstopping masterpiece, this remarkable truck is a testament to Dave’s devotion and imagination.
